Alexis Tsipras, President of SYRIZA (Greece), Vice President of the Party of the European Left, Candidate for the Presidency of the European Commission
Ireland—Dublin, in particular— is the new visit destination of Alexis Tsipras, travelling at the beginning of next week in his capacity as candidate of the European Left for the presidency of the European Commission. He will be a guest of Dublin City University.
Alexis Tsipras will be the key-note speaker at an international conference organized in conjunction by Dublin City University and the European network Transform! Europe under the over-all title: ‘Challenging the Rule of Troika, Transforming Europe’.
In what is expected to be an upbeat event, where the economic and the social implications from the memoranda in Greece, Ireland, Cyprus, Portugal, and Spain will be examined; but also the forms of resistance and the political alternatives, both at the national as well as the European level, will be discussed, an abundance of political and social representatives and intellectuals will be attending.
To mention indicatively only a few,

This one-day event will be completed by Alexis Tsipras’ talk on the topic ‘A Left Political Alternative for the Re-foundation of Europe’, considered by the organizers as the optimal way to bring the conference to its final fruition.
It should be noted that the event, and the talk by Alexis Tsipras in particular, are being eagerly anticipated, considering that the conference is taking place only three days after the organization, in the same city of Dublin, of the European People’s Party congress, with bothJean-Claude Juncker and Antonis Samaras expected to be attending.
Alexis Tsipras will naturally be using this opportunity to meet with local political and social communities and operators
