Visit in Dublin by Alexis Tsipras, President of SYRIZA
and candidate for the Presidency of the European Commission
Statement
In every European country where the Troika has set foot it has led to a surge of social misery, poverty, unemployment, and mass migration of younger people. The same national governments that have implemented austerity programs and have thereby made their people suffer are now trying to create the false impression that the Troika has succeeded.
They are creating the false impression that the Memoranda of austerity were the only solution. But, people will not believe them, because, up to now, people have experienced a tragedy. They have also experienced the social misery of austerity. They do have now a great opportunity. To vote against those policies and political parties that brought troika in their countries, and who are imposing these austerity programs, in the upcoming European elections.
On May 25 the dilemma is whether to continue with the troika in Greece, Ireland, Portugal, and Cyprus, and possibly in all the European countries as in fact austerity is a common project for all of Europe, or to send them away--whether we will claim to live without their recipes of failure, or we are going to build a new Europe, a Europe of the people.
